Craft Your Own Silver Ring: The Workshop

A Guide to Jewellery Making Workshops in Lisbon

There is a particular kind of souvenir that nobody buys on purpose, like the fridge magnet purchased at the airport, the tote bag from the market that tears on the way home, or the snow globe that seemed charming in the moment and has lived in a cupboard ever since. We have all come home from a trip with something that meant nothing within weeks. But a jewellery making workshop in Lisbon? That is something else entirely. An experience like that comes home with you in a different way.

A ring making class produces something that carries a story, a place, a memory. Something so much more than a cheap fridge magnet could ever do!

Lisbon is one of the most exciting cities in Europe right now, a place people return to repeatedly and struggle to adequately describe to friends who haven't been! The light, the hills, the tiles, the particular rhythm of the place that makes you walk slower and eat later and stay longer than you planned. Lisbon is genuinely special, and if you are looking for something to do during your trip here that captures a little of that feeling and brings it home with you, a jewellery workshop might be the most Lisboeta thing you can do.

Why a Ring Making Class Beats Another Museum Visit

We all know that during a city break we could spend our time more efficiently by visiting museums outside the tourist trail, checking out viewpoints few ever reach, and going to restaurants that locals swear by. But so often we get lost in the moment and end up sticking with the status quo or simply sitting and sipping a coffee in the sunshine. While there is nothing wrong with chilling out or checking out tourist spots, we believe taking a moment to create something is just as valuable.

A ring making class with us in our Lisbon Atelier takes three hours and encourages you to put your phone down, sit at a workbench, and make something with your hands.

This sounds simple and it is, in the best possible way. The act of making something, of shaping a piece of silver into a ring that fits your finger and comes home with you, requires a quality of attention that most of us rarely experience on holiday. You are not scrolling or planning. You are just making something, and that can be so genuinely restorative.

Beyond the emotions of the activity itself, you also leave with a handcrafted silver or gold ring that you made yourself in Lisbon, guided by an expert local jeweller who has been teaching and making for decades. Together you'll create something that's as much a story as it is a souvenir.

What Actually Happens at a Jewellery Workshop in Lisbon

Our jewellery workshops take place in a cosy Atelier near Avenida de Roma, accessible by metro on the green line and a long way from the Lisbon tourist trail. Sessions run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at either 10am or 3pm, last three hours, and take groups of up to four people.

When you arrive, Paula will be there, not an assistant or a junior member of staff, but Paula herself, the jeweller, the teacher, and the person who has been shaping metal by hand for over 30 years. She will walk you through everything from choosing your design and working with the metal, to filing, shaping and finishing a ring that fits your finger. No experience is required or expected. The jewellery workshop is designed for complete beginners, and the guidance throughout is patient, generous, and genuine.

By the end of three hours, you will have a handcrafted silver or gold ring to take home.

Who is a Jewellery Making Workshop Actually For?

Everyone, with one condition: you have to be willing to try. We have taught people who came alone and just wanted a quiet afternoon of making something. Conversely, we've helped couples celebrate, friends enjoy an afternoon not spent at a bar, and mothers and daughters make something special together. We have taught people who described themselves as completely uncreative and they've left having surprised themselves entirely.

The workshops work particularly well as a gift. There is something exciting about booking someone an experience of making jewellery by hand in a Atelier in Lisbon. It feels more considered than most things you can put in a gift box. It is a shared memory rather than simply an object, but it also comes with an object at the end!

If you are visiting Lisbon and looking for something a little outside the standard tourist itinerary, a ring making class is one of the more unusual things to do in the city. It is an experience we're sure you'll still be talking about when you get home, not because it is dramatic or extreme, but because it is quiet and real and personal in a way that holiday experiences so rarely are.

A Small Glass of Port, and the Lisbon You Don't Always Find

At the end of every jewellery workshop, we offer a small glass of port. It is a simple gesture but it feels right. You have just spent three hours making something with your hands in a city built on craft, tiles, and the traditions of people who care deeply about what they do, so a glass of port seems like the appropriate punctuation to this very Portuguese experience.

There is a version of Lisbon that most visitors see, and then there is the version that exists in studios and ateliers tucked behind the main streets. Our Atelier is in that second Lisbon, not on the tourist map but one of the real places that makes the city what it is.

What to Know Before You Book

The jewellery workshop costs €170 per person for the silver ring session. A gold ring workshop is also available for those who'd like to craft in a different metal.

Sessions are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 2pm and 6pm. If the standard times don't work for you, it is worth getting in touch with us directly, as Paula can sometimes accommodate other arrangements, but we can't make any promises!

You can bring up to three friends, making it a group experience for up to four people total. If you are buying as a gift, vouchers are available with flexible dates, which makes it considerably less stressful than trying to book on someone else's behalf.

Everything you'll need is included in the price, such as tools, materials and guidance. You just need to turn up and be ready to create a unique memento of your trip to Lisbon!

The Ring You Made Yourself

Lisbon is full of beautiful things to see, eat, and buy, but some of the best things to bring home are those you made there yourself.
